Leinster Distance Gala – 20 November 2016

Leinster Swimming held their distance gala on Sunday 20 November 2016 at the National Aquatic Centre, Blanchardstown in Dublin.

Seven members from Breifne Swim Club attended this gala taking part in nine different events.  Lloyd Hastings swam the 400M Freestyle, 200M Backstroke and 200M Freestyle gaining personal best times in both the Backstroke and Freestyle.  Charlie Gannon swam the 400M Freestyle and the 200M Breaststroke, gaining a personal best time in the Freestyle.

Louise Hastings swam the 400M Freestyle, 200M Backstroke and 200M Freestyle where she also gained PB’s in both the 200M events.  Katie Gannon swam 200M Freestyle and 200M Backstroke achieving a personal best time in the 200M Freestyle.

Leah and Maia Smith swam two events each – 200M Breaststroke and 200M IM.  Maia achieved two PB’S in both these events.  Blathnaid O’Reilly swam the 200M Freestyle.

Swim Ulster Winter Qualifying Gala – 18 / 20 November 2016

Swim Ulster held their first Qualifying Gala of the season over the weekend of 18 – 20 November 2016 in Lagan Valley LeisurePlex in Lisburn.

Three swimmers from Breifne Swim Club gained the appropriate qualifying times throughout the season to attend this gala.

Louis Maguire swam in five events and gained three personal best times.  He also obtained five first place finishes gaining five gold medals.  Gold medals were awarded in the 200M IM, 50M Backstroke, 50M Butterfly, 100M Backstroke and 100M IM.

Ciara McGill swam in seven events, gaining five personal best times and two gold medals.  Ciara also came fourth in two other events, narrowly missing out on a medal position.  Gold medals were won for 50M Butterfly and 50M Freestyle.

Dara Ronan, the third swimmer from Breifne Swim Club swam in four events.  Out of these four events, Dara gained three personal best times.

Enniskillen Lakelanders Swim Meet 2016 – 13 November 2016

Breifne Swim Club was out in force at Fermanagh Lakeland Forum on Sunday 13 November for the Enniskillen Lakelanders Annual Invitational Swim Meet.

Forty two swimmers from the club, some as young as 7, took part along with swimmers from Marlins Swimming Club – Ballyshannon, Strule Dolphins – Omagh, Sligo Swimming Club – Sligo, East Cavan Swimming Club – Cavan, Riversdale Otters Swimming Club – Strabane and of course the Enniskillen Lakelanders. In total there were around 208 swimmers.

There were 20 different events with the 11 and under swimming 50 metres while the 12 and over swam 100 metres in 4 strokes, Backstroke, Breaststroke, Butterfly and Freestyle.  There was also the 100 metre Individual Medley which is a combination of all 4 strokes, which all swimmers were eligible to enter.

Breifne swimmers came away with a whopping 109 Personal Best times.  There were some swimmers who achieved personal best times in all events they entered.  Two swimmers who achieved Ulster Age Group and Youth Championship Qualifying Times were Caoimhe Brady for 100M Freestyle and Olivia Moore for 100M Breaststroke.

A total of 61 medals were won by the Breifne swimmers, including 21 Gold Medals, 24 Silver Medals and 16 Bronze Medals.

A fantastic achievement for all our swimmers especially those younger inexperienced children as for some, this was their first gala.

Ards Junior Open Christmas Meet – 10 December 2016

Ards Swimming Club are holding a Junior Open Christmas Meet at Newtownards Leisure Centre, William Street, Newtownards on Saturday 10 December 2016.

This is a Junior gala open to all registered swimmers aged 12 and under.

Events for 9 years and under are 25M, all strokes plus 100M IM and relays.

Events for 10 years to 12 years are 50M and 100M, all strokes plus 200M IM and relays.

Breifne closing date is Wednesday 23 November at 10.00 am.
