Trojan Gala – 25/26 March 2017

Trojan Swim Club are holding their annual gala on Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 March 2017 in Newpark Sports Centre, Blackrock in Dublin.

Saturday morning will be 10 and under, while Saturday afternoon will be 11 – 12.  On Sunday morning it will be 13 and over and Sunday afternoon is an open meet with the 200M events.

Entries for this gala will be limited and are being accepted pm a first come, first served basis.  There will be an initial entry file submitted on Wednesday 1 March and any entries received after this will not be submitted unto after the Breifne closing date which is Friday 10 March.

NAC Mini Minnows Gala – 19 February 2017

NAC Swim Club held their annual Mini Minnows gala on Sunday 19 February 2017 at the National Aquatic Centre, Blanchardstown in Dublin.  This gala is intended for young and inexperienced swimmers swimming over 25M in all four strokes.

Four swimmers from Breifne Swim Club attended this gala, Renee Crotty, Cormac Crotty, Ned Tully and William Moore.  These swimmers gained a total of 14 personal best times out of a possible 15 events and some medals were won on the way.

Renee Crotty won a gold medal for 25M Breaststroke and 2 bronze medals for 25M Backstroke and 25M Butterfly.

Cormac Crotty took home 3 gold medals for 25M Breaststroke, 25M Butterfly and 25M Freestyle.

Breifne –v- Limavady Aquasprint Gala

Breifne Swim Club played host to Limavady for their third Aquasprint Gala of the season on Saturday 18 February, in the Leisure Centre in Cavan.

Once the warm up was over, both sides were eager to get started.  Medley Relays were up first with both teams taking two relays each.  The Group B and Group C brought victory to Breifne while the Group A and Group D succeeded for Limavady.

The first individual event was the backstroke and the Breifne side took six first place finishes, with the Group B boys taking both first and second place.  This secured Breifne a lead of ten points, bringing the score to Breifne 65 points and Limavady 55 points.

The next event was Breaststroke and Breifne took four first place finishes with the Group B girls and Group C girls taking both first and second place.  Breifne were still ten points ahead with the scores now at Breifne 105 and Limavady 95 points.

The third individual event of the evening was Butterfly. Here Breifne only managed three first place finishes with Group B girls, Group C girls and Group C boys.  This allowed Limavady to gain an advantage, overtaking Breifne by two points.  At this point scores are now Breifne 139 points, Limavady 141 points.

The final individual event of the evening was the Freestyle.  Breifne took two first place finishes with the Group B boys taking first and second place and Group C boys taking first place.  Limavady stretched their lead by six points going into the Freestyle Relays.

The final event of the evening is always great cause for excitement and this gala was no exception.  Again each team took two relay events each, with the Group B and Group C claiming victory once again for Breifne.  At the close of the gala Limavady were six points ahead.

Final scores Breifne 177 points and Limavady 183 points.

The Breifne Aquasprint team have their next gala in Cookstown on 8 April.

Cormorant Age Group Gala – 18/19 March 2017

Cormorant Swim Club will hold their annual gala over the weekend of 18 and 19 March in Trinity Sports and Leisure Complex, Donaghmede, Dublin.

Saturday evening has the 200M events while Sunday there will be 25M for 8 and under, 50M and 100M and the 200M IM.
