Swim Ulster Schools Cup and Championships 2016

Swim Ulster held their annual Schools Cup Championships in the Aurora Aquatic and Leisure Complex in Bangor over the weekend of Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 October 2016.

Three young swimmers from Breifne Swim Club took part in these championships representing their schools.

Louis Maguire was representing Laragh National School.  He took part in the boys 50M backstroke along with 24 other children from various schools.  Louis managed to come in third place in the preliminary heat while also securing a PB time of 42.74 seconds, taking 1.5 seconds of his entry time.  Louis then went on to swim the final coming in in second place and securing another PB time 40.95 seconds and a silver medal.

Beth Grant represented her school, St Mary’s National School in Ballyhaise.  Beth swam the 50M Breaststroke along with 46 other entrants.  Beth managed eleventh position, narrowly missing out on a final securing a PB time of 46.48 seconds.  Beth also swam in the 50M Freestyle, which had a huge entry of 67 other swimmers.  Here Beth managed twelfth position and again was a reserve for the final with another PB time.

Alegra Aylward swam for her school, Drumkilly National School in Cavan.  Alegra swam in the 50M Freestyle event coming in fifth in the preliminary heat and also gaining a personal best time.  She then went on to swim in the final and finished overall in sixth position out of a total of 62 entries.  Alegra also swam in the 50M Butterfly event coming in third in the preliminary heat and taking 2.76 seconds of her time to gain another PB.  She then went on to swim in the final and finished in third place overall taking home the bronze medal.
